Albemarle at North Stanly

7 p.m.

Two Stanly County schools face off in a Yadkin Valley Conference game, with the Albemarle Bulldogs visiting the Comets. North Stanly is 6-1 on the season and unbeaten in conference play (3-0) after a 62-0 beatdown of South Davidson last Friday, the team’s second shutout of 2017. The Comets are riding a three-game winning streak and have outscored their opponents 308-96 this season and 120-6 in the last two. The key for North Stanly will be not looking ahead to next week’s big matchup with North Rowan, which sits atop the conference standings with the Comets. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs (3-4, 2-1) were tied with North Rowan midway through the second quarter last week, but the Cavaliers scored 34 unanswered points the rest of the way in a 41-7 final. Albemarle has managed just 13 points the last two games, and its trip to North Stanly will be just the third road game of the year for the Bulldogs. They will need to rely on the stout defense that has pitched two shutouts this year to have a chance to pull of the upset.

West Stanly (2-5, 0-1) has dropped three straight after a 35-21 loss at Forest Hills last week, but should get some relief this week hosting the winless Cougars (0-7, 0-1) in a Rocky River Conference matchup. Central Academy has been shut out in six of its seven games this season, allowing at least 42 points a game and being outscored 401-7 on the season — which works out to an average score of 57.3 to 1.

7 p.m.

South Stanly comes off a 34-0 homecoming win over North Moore that saw the Rowdy Rebel Bulls (3-4, 2-1) score on their first three possessions to jump out to a three-touchdown lead in the first quarter. The Warriors (5-2) are tied in the Yadkin Valley Conference standings with South Stanly at 2-1 and have back-to-back shutouts, including last week’s 61-0 win over Chatham Central, and  have a strong rushing attack.
