North Stanly softball freshman Sophia Crist is Athlete of the Week for the second time.
We honored her back in April when she turned in back-to-back shutouts, one a perfect game.
Crist led North Stanly to the NCHSAA 2A Western Regional Championship series with another strong performance on the mound in the quarterfinals. She then opened the championship series with a complete game shutout of Southwestern Randolph. She scored the game’s only run in a walk-off win to go up one game to none in the best-of-three series.
North Stanly dropped the next two games, both tight affairs. In the final game, she singled to start a final-inning rally that saw the potential game-winning run come to the plate. She was stranded, however, bringing a successful season to an end.
