Trailing 39-37 heading into the fourth quarter, the South Stanly boys’ basketball team edged past West Stanly in a 56-53 road win on Friday night.
The Bulls (7-0) outscored the Colts (4-4) by a 19-14 margin in the final eight minutes, managing to hold on to their undefeated start to the 2023-24 season. The victory marked South’s second win over West in a span of two weeks as the Bulls defeated the Colts 46-44 at home on Dec. 1.
Looking to extend their winning streak, South hosted Anson (4-1) on Tuesday and is set to host BCLA (2-5) on Dec. 28.
Hoping to bounce back from a pair of recent losses, West is slated to host Corvian Community (3-2) on Dec. 28.
North Stanly 71, South Rowan 54
The North Stanly Comets (8-1) won their seventh-straight game on Friday in a 17-point home victory over the South Rowan Raiders (0-6).
North has now eclipsed the 70-point mark in five of its eight wins, demonstrating an ability to put points on the board.
The Comets hit the road on Monday to face Forest Hills (4-3) and will return home on Dec. 27 to challenge Central Academy (2-7).
Eastern Randolph 83, Albemarle 66
Nothing has come easy this season for the Albemarle Bulldogs (0-6), who fell 83-66 in a home loss to the Eastern Randolph Wildcats (1-1) on Friday.
The winless Bulldogs have lost their past three games by a combined 94 points but were still able to produce a season-high 66 points against Eastern Randolph.
Albemarle will face the Wildcats again — this time in a Wednesday night road matchup — before heading to Concord (4-3) on Dec. 27.
Langtree Charter 59, Gray Stone 30
Still searching for their first victory since 2020, the Gray Stone Knights (0-6) failed again to score over 30 points in a game this season as the Langtree Charter Lions (1-9) pulled out a 59-30 road win on Dec. 11.
Gray Stone trailed 29-16 at halftime and was unable to cut into the Lions’ lead in the second half.
The Knights have a blank slate for the rest of the month until their schedule resumes at home with East Rowan (0-7) on Jan. 3.
