ALBEMARLE –– Originally scheduled for June 3 but postponed due to safety precautions, the Stanly County Chamber Classic golf tournament is back on Piney Point Golf Club’s summer schedule.
The annual event is set for a noon shotgun start on Wednesday, Aug. 19, at the Norwood golf course located at 48688 Piney Point Rd.
Team and individual registration opens at 10:30 a.m. and is followed by an 11 a.m. lunch. Entry fees for the tournament are $100 per person ($400 per team) and will include carts and lunch.
In addition, “extras” can be bought for $20 per person ($80 per team) and contain multiple tournament benefits: a pair of mulligans, one throw, a red tee, and one entry in the 50/50 split the pot raffle.
“I’m really looking forward to this tournament,” Joey Vaughan, a Stanfield resident with plans of entering the Stanly County Chamber Classic, told SCJ. “It’s going to be fun out there on the greens playing with some friends and hopefully winning it.”
The Stanly Chamber, Stanly Community College, Union Power Cooperative, Uwharrie Bank and First Bank are all sponsors for the upcoming tournament.
Reservations for the event can be locked in ahead of time by contacting Sandy Selvy-Mullis, president and CEO of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, through email ([email protected]) or phone (704-982-8116).
Piney Point Golf Club has been one of Stanly County’s premier golf courses since it opened in 1964. Four years ago, Piney Point upgraded its greens with the installation of Champion Bermuda grass in an effort to provide a more well-rounded putting surface that can be easily maintained.
