Suspect arrested after shooting

ALBEMARLE — Two people were killed and one person was seriously injured in a shooting Monday morning in Stanly County. The Stanly County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting which occurred at a home near New London, according to police reports.

At the scene, deputies found victims James Sturdivant, 56, and Cindy Caple, 38, deceased. The home belonged to Sturdivant. A third, unidentified victim was transported to the hospital.

According to local reports, Meeko James Harris, 33, has been arrested in connection with the murders and was found in Anson County. As of Tuesday, Harris was being held in the Stanly County Jail without bond charged with first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon.

According to local arrest records, Harris was previously convicted of second-degree murder in 2006 and had recently gotten out of prison.

According to WSOC, neighbors said the shooting was not random and that people inside the home were involved in drug activity. Nathan Harris told WSOC he heard someone knocking on his neighbor’s door and he opened his door to the third victim who was bleeding and asked him to call 911. Nathan Harris said that the unidentified man told him he played dead to survive.
