RALEIGH — Gov. Roy Cooper appointed five members to the State Board of Elections on Monday, May 8.
State law mandates that the governor’s party has a three-to-two advantage in board membership. The Democratic and Republican parties select candidates from which Cooper appoints.
Two of the current board members will continue: Democrat Jeff Carmon and Republican Stacy “Four” Eggers.
Carmon, an attorney, has served on the state board since 2019. He is counsel and associate director of legal and compliance at Mycovia Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
Eggers, a longtime member of the state board, has served in his current tenure since 2020 and is the managing partner of Eggers Law Firm in Boone.
Three new members will join the board for the next term.
Alan S. Hirsch of Chapel Hill and Sioban Millen of Raleigh were also nominated by the state Democratic Party. Hirsch is the CEO and co-founder of Biorg and the president of the North Carolina Healthcare Quality Alliance. Millen is a licensed attorney and longtime precinct worker, according to a statement from Cooper’s office.
Kevin Lewis of Rocky Mount is the second Republican to join the board. He is an attorney at the Valentine Law Firm in Nash County. Lewis has served on the Nash County Board of Elections since 2007 and was the board chair from 2013-2019.
The three members of the board whose terms expired are Democrats Damon Circosta and Stella Anderson along with Republican Tommy Tucker.
