North Stanly football player to participate in Blue-Grey All-American Bowl

NEW LONDON — A North Stanly Comet will be playing in this winter’s Blue-Grey All-American Bowl at AT&T Stadium in Dallas.

Cooper Hogan, a senior wide receiver and defensive back for North Stanly, has been selected to participate in the upcoming bowl game at the home of the National Football League’s Dallas Cowboys.

“I am honored to be invited to the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl in Dallas,” Hogan posted on his Twitter page following the bowl invitation announcement. “Thanks to Blue-Grey Football for the opportunity. Also, big shout out to my teammates, coaches, North Stanly Booster Club and Dr. Dawn Lucas for the recognition.”

A dual threat for the Comets on both offense and defense, Hogan will likely play free safety during the bowl game. The latest slate of Blue-Grey matchups has been scheduled for Dec. 14, 2020, Jan. 18, 2021, and Jan. 25, 2021, in Dallas.

Hogan was a participant at the All-American Combine (Mid-Atlantic Super) at the Washington Football Club’s training facility back on June 28, where he engaged in drills such as the 40-yard-dash, shuttle run and bench press, among others.

In 2019, Hogan led the Comets with four interceptions and finished the season with third-highest tackle count (70) on his team; he had five interceptions during his sophomore season.

On the offensive side of the ball — lined up as a wideout — the 5-foot-9, 170-pound Hogan was second on the Comets with 24 receptions last year. He averaged nearly 10 yards per catch during his 230-yard campaign as a wide receiver.

“Big shoutout to Cooper Hogan on his invitation as a defensive back to the Blue-Grey All-American Bowl,” the North Stanly Booster Club posted on Twitter following Hogan’s bowl invitation. “Your North Stanly High School Booster Club and Comet Nation are very proud of you.”
